Spring Racing Carnival Wine & Gin Day Trip: Yarra Valley. City transfers Trade the track for the vines for a wonderful day trip to a spectacular wine region — a Spring Racing Carnival escape into one of Australia's great cool-climate wine regions, an hour from Melbourne. Guided tasting at Chandon, working through the estate's sparkling styles with sweeping views over the vines — From there, it's on to a leisurely lunch at either Soumah of Yarra Valley or Tokar Estate (seasonal, chef-led menus with vineyard or mountain views), with a wine tasting included at whichever venue you land at. To round the day out, you'll head to a Four Pillars Gin tasting paddle, featuring their Melbourne Laneways Gin — a fitting nod to the city you've left behind for the day, distilled a world away from the racetrack.
