Akihabara Craft Tour: ZEN Sandals, Hidden Streets & Beer
Akihabara has two faces. The loud one is everywhere. We show you the other. Step away from the neon and crowds for a four-hour journey through a quieter, deeper side of Tokyo — wearing sandals you make yourself. First, hand-craft your own ZEN sandals, our modern, runnable take on Japan’s centuries-old waraji. No experience needed. About 90 minutes later, you’ll tie them on and head into the city. Then explore 3.5 km of hidden Akihabara on foot or at a slow jog: century-old brick railway arches, a 1,300-year-old shrine where tradition meets anime culture, a historic Confucian temple, and iconic Hijiri Bridge. Along the way, enjoy freshly made taiyaki and warm amazake from a shop founded in 1846. Finally, raise a glass at a local brewery. Your first craft beer is on us. And your ZEN sandals? They’re yours to keep — handmade by you, worn through Tokyo, with a story no souvenir shop can sell. Just 3–8 guests. No rushing. Tokyo at a different pace.
