Testaccio Food Wine Walking Tour with Underground Cave Tasting
This is not your average food tour. Set in Rome’s most authentic neighborhood, Testaccio, this experience takes you beyond pizza and gelato to explore the real roots of Roman cuisine. At the bustling local market, you’ll learn about the area’s unique culinary history — including the famous “fifth quarter” tradition, visible at butcher stalls offering cuts rarely found elsewhere. You’ll then step into a historic cave beneath Monte dei Cocci, where ancient Romans once stored food and wine, and enjoy a tasting of cheeses and wine. The tour continues with two traditional Roman pasta dishes and ends on a sweet note with artisan gelato. Led by a local Roman host, this experience blends history, flavors, and hidden gems you won’t find in any guidebook.
