Storms & Sunsets: A Seawall Sunset Stroll (Walking Tour)
Watch the Gulf glow at sunset while walking through the storms, scandals, and survivors that shaped Galveston's Seawall. This 90 min walking tour covers ~1 mile, runs Oct-Dec, starts ~30 min before sunset. Start at the legendary Balinese Room—hear about the Maceo family's Prohibition-era casino and its famous "Ranger's Run." Pass Murdoch's, rebuilt after every major storm since 1900, and the site of Electric Park, once "the Coney Island of the South." Visit the Pleasure Pier, born as a WWII rec facility, stop for sunset photos at the seawall's granite groins, and pass the Sea Turtle Mural at McGuire-Dent Rec Center—with an optional ice cream stop at Fish Tales. On the walk back: Fort Crockett's real WWII coastal defenses and the tragic story of Sister Katherine and the orphans lost in the 1900 storm—leading into our final stop, the historic Hotel Galvez, built on the very site where they tragedy washed ashore.
