About
There's so much more to Boston history than meets the eye! Venture out to Roxbury to explore the center of British power in colonial New England and come away with a firm grasp - much like the British handshake - of its continuing impact in American culture. If you love awesome architecture and enjoy all-things-British, Shirley Place is a must-see destination. The Shirley-Eustis House is the lone survivor of the grand country houses that dominated Roxbury's landscape in the 18th century. Built in 1747-1751 as a summer estate, Governor Shirley also made a grand statement about the presence and authority of the British Empire in America by choosing the high Palladian style.
